Why Hire a Husband & Wife Wedding Photography Team?!

Why Hire a Husband & Wife Wedding Photography Team?!

Queen Victoria and Prince Albert; Pierre and Marie Curie; Johnny and June Cash: what would history, science, and music be like without the teamwork of these devoted couples? When two people who love each other also work together, the results have an extra dimension not often found in regular business partnerships. We like to think that the same is true for wedding photography. Meet us – we are Tami and Ryan and have been married for seven wonderful years. Here are some reasons why we think a husband and wife wedding photography team represents the ideal choice for your wedding photography.

We Get It

Although there are lots of talented wedding photographers out there, we know what it’s like to plan a wedding because we’ve done it. Seven years ago, we said our own vows. Looking back, a lot of the day is a wonderful blur. That’s why getting the photographs just the way you want them is so important. Throughout the day, we will do everything to capture your vision of your wedding day just as you want it. We know how precious our wedding album is to us and want to make sure you will cherish your wedding photos just as much.

We Can Be Two Places at One Time

A single photographer will not be able to capture every moment of your wedding day; there is simply too much happening at any given time. The both of us can take pictures of separate events happening at the same time, such as the bride getting ready, the groom wiping a tear away as he reads a little note from his soon to be bride, etc. We can also photograph the ceremony from different angles, capturing the groom’s expression when he first sees the bride or the pride of the bride’s parents seeing their little girl all grown up.

Teamwork Produces Better Results

Many wedding photographers hire a “second shooter,” but the name says it all. This person may be less experienced or may not have worked with your photographer before. At any rate, there is a hierarchy, which means that the second photographer will do what he or she is instructed to do. As a married couple, we cooperate and work together automatically, whether it is putting our kids to bed, getting the errands run, or making sure our equipment is in tip-top condition for our next wedding. But most importantly, we have worked as a team to photograph over 250 weddings. Together we will fulfill your vision of how your wedding day should be recorded.

Get Two Perspectives

Having either a male or a female photographer is going to be awkward at times. What bride wants a guy in her suite as she is getting ready, having her hair done, and sharing giggles with her bridesmaids? On the flip side, what groom wants a woman photographing his pre-wedding jitters? We don’t have that problem. Tami loves chronicling how a woman about to marry becomes a bride when she puts on her dress. (It is actually one of Tami’s favorite moments of the day!) As for Ryan, he loves hanging out with the guys and photographing the final moments of bachelor life.

Wedding Photography Is Our Life’s Work

When other photographers go home, they put their work away. If an issue comes up or they have an idea for a client, it has to wait until the next business day. Not so with us. We are together most of the time and thus are able to be creative when the ideas come, not when the clock is between 9am and 5 pm. We each know the logistics for every shoot. But more importantly, we have a shared passion: taking the best wedding photos possible.

We’d be honored to photograph your special day. Please contact us to set up a time to chat about your vision for your wedding and how we can help you achieve it.

A Surprise Proposal at the Blue Cross River Rink Winterfest

A Surprise Proposal at the Blue Cross River Rink Winterfest

Surprise proposals might just be one of our very favorite moments to capture!  The Joy. Happiness. Surprise. The raw moment that we get to capture in time. We love when we are contacted to capture such a memorable moment for a couple.  This moment has been well thought out and planned and there is such a build up of excitement and nervousness, and the fact that Rocco wanted this moment frozen in time shows us how much he truly loves Erin!

We were thrilled when Rocco contacted us, because he was actually the best man in his cousin Rocky’s wedding a few years ago!  In 2015, had the honor of capturing Rocky, as he proposed to Kait in New York City. Then we captured their engagement photos in Wildwood and in April of 2017, their wedding at the Carriage House!

Rocco and Erin only lived about 20 minutes from another.  So, why did it take them both being guests at a destination wedding to finally meet one another?  It doesn’t matter, because from that wedding, came their greatest love story!  Which leads us to Wednesday, December 12th… the day that Rocco decided to get down on one knee and ask Erin to be his wife!  After the shock, she said yes, of course!  We then walked around the Winterfest and captured a mini-engagement shoot for them!  Can’t wait to capture a full-engagement shoot for them in the future – ya know, when Erin is prepared for it! 🙂

Enjoy a sneak peek into this amazing moment in their lives!

A Misty, Magical Updike Farmstead of Princeton Wedding | Katie & Drew

A Misty, Magical Updike Farmstead of Princeton Wedding | Katie & Drew

To say we were excited for Katie and Drew’s wedding at the Updike Farmstead of Princeton, would be an understatement!  Ryan and I may not have had the pleasure of meeting these two before their wedding day, however, when we arrived, they immediately felt like family! Katie & Drew welcomed us with open arms and joy! Ryan and I could not have asked for a more perfect day for them!  Well, we could have asked for some sun, but that didn’t get these two down! There was a magical, rainy mist that occurred on and off throughout the day, but everything still went as planned! Outdoor portraits, outdoor ceremony and a beautiful, fun outdoor cocktail hour!

Chic, Elegant Rustic Wedding Details for a Modern Bride

When we arrived at the Updike Farmstead of Princeton and saw these large farm doors, we immediately knew that her dress had to be hung there! I was so excited about her Mikaella dress that she found at Kleinfeld Bridal, because that was the same dress designer that I had for my own wedding dress! Boy, it did not disappoint!  Plus, her beautiful earrings, golden belt and Stuart Weitzman shoes were the topping on the cake! Most importantly, she had some awesome customized Converse shoes for later, so she could easily dance the night away!

The Bride and her Attendants, Getting Ready at the Farmhouse at Updike Farmstead

I had the pleasure of meeting up with Katie at the Hyatt Regency Hotel, where she was getting her hair and makeup done.  Afterwards, we headed over to the Farmhouse on the property at Updike Farmstead for her to get dressed.  On the second floor, in the bridal suite, her mom helped her into her dress, and you could see the butterflies start to develop as we were getting closer to her first look with Drew!

The Groom and his Attendants, Getting Ready at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Princeton, NJ

Ryan arrived to a room full of fun and jokes as he hung out with Drew, and helped get him ready for the day! Afterwards, they drove over to the Updike Farmstead of Princeton to hang out a little while before the all important first look was to take place!

A First Look and Bride & Groom Portraits on the Farm at Updike Farmstead

As the magical mist filled the air, so did the excitement of Katie and Drew seeing one another for the very first time! There was so much joy and love and laughter!  Ryan and I had the best time walking around the property and capturing these two lovebirds in all of their soon to be wedded bliss!! In just a short period of time, we feel like we got to know them so well! Above all, we hope to continue our friendship well past their wedding day!

Updike Farmstead Bridal Party Portraits

Katie & Drew’s bridal party was so much fun! I particularly love that Katie had her brother as one of HER attendants!  More recently, I am loving that our couples are not afraid to mix things up and have guys and girls as attendants on each side of the bridal party!

A Meaningful Ceremony, Officiated by the Uncle of the Bride

Goodness, the ceremony location at the Updike Farmstead of Princeton is right out of a rustic brides dream wedding Pinterest board! From the distressed white building to the old farm windmill and white chairs, it is absolute perfection! Plus, we always get excited when a family member is going to officiate the wedding – It means that it is just that much more meaningful and personal for the couple!  Also, we absolutely adored their reading during the ceremony – How Falling in Love is like Owning a Dog, by Taylor Mali! So cute!

A Fun and Dance filled Reception in the tent at Updike Farmstead of Princeton

The barn at Updike Farmstead of Princeton is so beautiful! The barn is filled with natural light flowing in and beautiful twinkle lights!  Not a detail was missed!  Speaking of the overall details of the day, I can’t forget to mention Alana from Bella Donna Weddings!  Alana and her team did an amazing job making sure the day went according to plan!  It was such a pleasure working with her!  Having a wedding planner is the best decision a couple can do for themselves on their special day! Therefore, removing all of the stresses and letting someone else take the reins, is such a weight lifted off your shoulders and you’re free to thoroughly enjoy your day!

A Bright and Beautiful Longwood Gardens Engagement Session

From the gardens, to the fountains to the beautiful architecture, you really cannot go wrong with choosing Longwood Gardens for your engagement session! There is so much to see and no shortage of beautiful backdrops.  We could spend an entire day there and still not see it all.  We love continually visiting Longwood Gardens, because each time we go we find something new!

Liz and Stephen chose Longwood Gardens for their engagement session, because they live nearby and absolutely love going.  In particular, they love the fountain shows, especially around the holidays!  You could just see their faces light up as we walked through the gardens.  They were so cute and natural together, and make our job so easy!

The Story of Liz & Stephen

It was March 14th, 2015. Liz’s girlfriends called her up an asked her to come out for drinks.  She reluctantly said yes, and that decision changed her life forever. A very drunk patron attempted to his on all of the girls at the same time. He was very unsuccessful, but the guys sitting next to them found it very amusing. After a few hours of trading jokes and occasional conversation, the bar got crowded, and it was time to leave.

To Liz’s surprise, Steve asked for her number. (She had thought he was originally hitting on one of her friends).  They went out on a date a week later, and three days after that he cooked her a beautiful dinner after a rough day at work.  There was never one moment, one look, one instance – they just grew together and didn’t want to be apart.

In October of 2017, while standing on a cliff overlooking the harbor in Maine, Stephen proposed! Liz, of course, said YES!
